Nelson Dentistry had a great time in August volunteering on our second build for Habitat for Humanity. This time around the team learned how to install drywall. We were very grateful to be working inside on a hot August day! Thanks to the awesome build supervisor on-site, Team Nelson Dentistry is getting to be quite the group of DIY’ers! Just an FYI, the great thing about volunteering for a build is that you don’t need to have any build experience. We certainly learned a lot, worked hard, and had fun spending time giving back to the community.
Nelson Dentistry Volunteers at Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity is a global nonprofit housing organization working in local communities across all 50 states in the U.S. and in approximately 70 countries. Habitat’s vision is of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Habitat works toward their vision by building strength, stability, and self-reliance in partnership with families in need of decent and affordable housing. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage.
Habitat for Humanity breaks the cycle of poverty by providing stable, safe and affordable homes for families. The homes that are built improve the appearance and value of the community. Additionally, Habitat for Humanity puts money back into the community by purchasing all materials used for the build projects locally.
Habitat for Humanity homes are financed solely through donations from individuals, clubs, churches, businesses, and agencies; grants from private foundations; in-kind donations from local and national companies; and house payments recycled to build more homes. No government money is used for construction.
Nelson Dentistry is a huge fan of the work and mission of Habitat for Humanity. We plan on continuing our support of the organization. We are looking forward to our next build and wondering just what new skills we will learn!
