Sealants in Missoula, MT

top dentist missoula mtAs your child grows, we may recommend some additional treatment procedures to help protect their oral health. A common procedure Dr. Nelson suggests for children is dental sealants. This procedure is also beneficial for adults who may be prone to cavities.

Sealants are very small preventative fillings that are placed without ever needing a drill or needle. These fillings are most often placed in young children on their molar teeth to prevent cavities in susceptible (deep) grooves that are nearly impossible to clean when brushing. Sealants will keep bacterial plaque and food debris from collecting in these areas and causing tooth decay. Having sealants placed is a quick, cost-effective, and non-invasive procedure that can typically be completed in one appointment at our office.

Why is Preventative Dentistry so Important?

Preventative care is just as important for children as it is for adults, and maybe even more so for children since dental caries, or cavities continue to be one of the number one health concerns for children. With consistent preventative care every six month starting at an early age, your child will enjoy the benefits of optimum oral health, which means less time missed from school due to dental visits or toothaches, and they will also develop a comfort level at the dentist that will carry them into adulthood.

Why is Protecting My Child's Baby Teeth Important?

Baby teeth will eventually fall out, so why does your Missoula dentist recommend extra treatment for them? Believe it or not, baby teeth have many important jobs to do the minute they arrive in your little one's mouth such as:

  • Helping them to eat and enjoy solid foods
  • Holding space for the adult teeth to come and guiding them into the proper position
  • Helping your child form words and learn how to talk

If baby teeth fall out before they are supposed to due to trauma or decay, it can negatively impact your child's oral development. Consistent visits to your dentist and dental sealants are two excellent ways to help protect your child's oral health, and we're happy to be a part of your oral health care team at Nelson Dentistry.

If you are an adult who is prone to developing cavities, sealants can also help protect your teeth from the acids and bacteria that cause tooth decay. Be sure to discuss your concerns with Dr Nelson at your next dental checkup so together you can determine if dental sealants may be a solution for you.

Dr. Nelson and his team are your partners in protecting your child's oral health and monitoring their development. To learn more about sealants and other preventative procedures offered at our dental office, give Nelson Dentistry a call today!

I am no stranger to Montana. From about preschool to 3rd grade I lived in Missoula near Chief Charlo Elementary. In fact, I was part of the inaugural 3rd grade class at Chief Charlo when it first opened. Before that, I attended C.M. Russell Elementary just down the road from our current dental office! Then, due to my parent’s job relocation, we moved to Helena, MT.

I graduated from Capital High School and then went on to graduate at Montana State with the degree of Cell Biology and Neuroscience. Similarly to ...
